This research explores the transformation of Puerto Rico’s dormant rail infrastructure into a dynamic network of sustainable mobility and green infrastructure. The Revitalization of Puerto Rico’s Historic Rail Infrastructure through Green Infrastructure and Sustainable Mobility envisions converting obsolete railway corridors into multifunctional transit hubs that connect urban, suburban, and rural communities while reducing carbon emissions and automobile dependence. Through spatial analysis, environmental impact assessments, and transportation modeling, the study identifies strategies to integrate stormwater management, climate adaptation, and active transportation into the railway restoration process. More than a transportation initiative, this work demonstrates how landscape architecture and engineering can converge to create resilient infrastructure that enhances quality of life, supports equitable access to public transit, and inspires broader sustainable development across the island.
